Following the final round at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, MG1 Motorsports has wrapped up their 2024 Ferrari Challenge season on North American soil before heading to Imola Circuit in Italy later this month for the Finali Mondiali. The team competed across the Trofeo Pirelli 296 Challenge, Coppa Shell 296 Challenge, and 488 Challenge championships, and saw a great deal of success as their drivers put on dominant performances across all classes. They concluded the season by clinching the 2024 North America team championship, with drivers across the board contributing to the team’s exceptional year with a plethora of podiums and wins.
The Ferrari of Seattle and Scuderia 1999 group has been exceptional across all rounds, consistently maximizing on points scored. With a total of 1,830 points earned throughout the six events in 2024, the team accumulated a substantial lead, with a near-600 point advantage over the next-closest dealership in the standings.
Notably, Massimo Perrina was the standout performer in 488 Challenge, as the Pirelli class competitor was utterly dominant as he claimed a total of nine wins, ten pole positions, and nine fastest laps over the course of the season. His near-perfect run, which saw him accumulate a total of 360 points, allowed him to clinch the championship title, establishing an almost 100-point advantage over the runner-up in the process. The series served as an excellent building block as the 488 driver looks to carry over his success into the 296 platform.
In the Trofeo Pirelli 296 Challenge championship, which featured a highly competitive field of drivers overall, the team took home a lot of hardware across the board. Notably, in the Pirelli class, Roberto Perrina claimed two wins and six podiums, sitting second in the standings and just a mere four points behind the leader. Michael Petramalo also earned several Top 5 and Top 10 finishes of his own.
As for the Pirelli AM category, Australian sensation Brian Cook tops the leaderboard as he has taken the win a total of five times, in addition to a further three podium finishes. He has also scooped up pole position and the fastest lap on two and four occasions, respectively. Meanwhile, Frank Chang ran a partial season, but broke into the Top 5 twice.
Yahn Bernier is within striking distance in the championship battle in the Coppa Shell 296 Challenge series, and this season saw him secure his breakthrough win back at the opening round in Austin, Texas. From there, he went on to take two further wins, and five more podium results.
As the team looks ahead to the final races in Italy, Roberto Perrina, Brian Cook, and Yahn Bernier will be pushing hard as they seek to take home the title in each of their respective championship pursuits.
Dana Goodwin and Helen Chu have also shown great consistency in the Shell AM class, each sitting within the Top 10 in the rankings. Additionally, Chu is second in the Ladies class, while Goodwin leads the Gentleman category.
The team is greatly looking forward to wrapping up the season with more strong racing in Imola, as the Finali Mondiali is set to unfold from October 16th to 20th, 2024.
